Let me ask you this – Can you successfully juggle a professional life, and house cleaning, planning and cooking healthy meals, Time with your family, self care – including fitness, recreation, and relaxation?
And here is what drove me to write this course. I see this all of the time, and it rips my heart out –
When you do spend time with your family, are you able to relax and have loving conversation and connection, or are you so overwhelmed that all you can do is snap and yell?
As a child raised in that kind of household, I can tell you that the effects never go away.
I see the look on the kids faces, and I know their pain all too well. And kids handle it one of 2 ways – either they retreat into their shell, or they become belligerent. I was a shell dweller – always trying to please, and not make waves.
I still tend to be a shell dweller. When my daughter was growing up, our house was the house where the kids were welcome to hang out. We had tons for them to do, and as long as they cleaned up after themselves and didn’t destroy anything, they were welcome to do pretty much what they wanted.
One day they were playing Nintendo in the front room when someone knocked over their glass. My daughter said, “I’ll go get my Mom.”
The other kids were like, “No!” They felt they had to hide it. They were terrified. My daughter came and got me anyway. Everyone helped clean it up, and life went on.
I remembered what it would have been like if I had done that when I was young, and it made me so sad for them.
And its not that their parents were bad. They weren’t. They were all very hard working, trying to do their best.
The problem is – Not many can manage life anymore
I understood that truth and tried to help them as much as I could by giving their kids a safe place to play. But mostly, I did it for the kids – so they could have a place where they could be themselves.
These skills are not being taught anywhere
These skills used to be passed from Grandmother, to mother, to daughter. With more and more on our plates, the system has broken down. The technology that was supposed to save us has only enslaved us. Now we’re on call 24/7 for anyone who thinks they need us at the drop of a hat.
Its a rare woman who is bold enough to break the chains and live life on her terms. Are you one of them? You can be
